Specializing in Arts & Craft & Mission Style Home Furnishings
I believe I have come by my interest in woodworking honestly, with roots that may lie in Ireland. The above picture, dating from 1921 Dublin during the uprising, shows at least one possible relative in the furniture trade.
My own father worked in wood and metal, and though I started much later in life than he, I hope to continue my passion for many more years
My great grandfather, after marrying and beginning his family in Dublin, left Ireland from Cork in 1871, arriving in New York in January,1872. Disembarking there, he went to St. Louis, where our family has lived for the next several generations, slowly integrating into American society.
St. Louis has been my home my entire life, and it is where my shop is still located.
Though tight on space, Three Wolves Woodshop has all the tools on hand to produce the products in which we specialize.
Our wood is sourced from either reclaim vendors or sustainable sellers. Our tiles are hand made by my wife, our upholsterer is a one woman shop, our glass comes from local vendors and our hardware from blacksmiths or small metal workers.
When I became more involved in woodworking about 15 years ago, I decided to adopt as my guiding principle the words of Willliam Morris, one of the founders of the Arts & Craft movement: "Have nothing in your home which you do not know to be useful or believe to be beautiful." I try to fulfill this aim with each item I produce in my shop. To me, in particular, as an owner of a true Arts & Crafts bungalow, furnishings crafted in this style display their beauty through the quality of materials and the precision of their construction.
Each piece is designed with both utility and appearance in mind, using period woods (either reclaimed or from sustainable harvests) with accessories and hardware crafted by small, independent suppliers, and using appropriate joinery. You wish to purchase something from our inventory, or to have a unique piece created. In choosing the latter, I start with a consultation to find out what you're looking for and any other personal preferences you might have. I then send you design sketches and an estimate, as we work together to create a design you love.
Then, I get to building!
I create pieces you can enjoy for years to come. If you ever encounter a design flaw or craftsmanship issue, I will fix or replace the piece–you only pay shipping. I'm also always available to help you you maintain the look of your wood.
